An Introduction

Genre confusion - fact v fiction
wherever you read.

Fact & Fiction Author

Because facts and fiction can be confusing when one author writes between such extremes, I decided to bite the bullet and offer readers a choice with distinctive author sites: David R. Tollafield  (Factual-clinical health) & RC Blyth (fictional events). Most of my work comes from independent publishing through the Busypencilcase Communications platform (there is no website for this).

This newsletter shares information about past, present and future publications, offering pre-launch glimpses, beta reader opportunities and updates with discounted and free offers. Rather than use auto-drop mailers, I wanted to send newsletters directly if requested or to have them picked up from—@davidtollafield (Facebook), @myfootjourneys & @blyth_rc ((X) and LinkedIn. I do not want to bother you readers unnecessarily. To receive news updates in this form, please let me know using my contact email: Busypencilcasecfp@gmail.com

A distinctive log was necessary.
Tollafield and Blyth. I created a new logo.

Blogs & Stuff

  • davidtollafieldauthor.com site currently features books, videos produced by Chris Perret and articles and blogs covering clinical health uncertainties ConsultingFootPain.

So What’s New? —Four New Books to Report

Factual books—the most significant news was the launch of A Complete Patient Guide to Bunions. Is Surgery Necessary? My co-author, Dr Tim Kilmartin, worked with me on this. I would say its most unique feature is the patient questions and responses, which bite home at some of the common post-surgery complaints.

Fictional books—In October 2024, I updated my first short stories with an additional tale and republished them under RC Blyth. The time had come to take a break, and to be clear, I was now an author with two names. Fatal Contracts is available, but you can buy it directly from me for £4.00+pp, saving around 40%. The Rod of Blackthorn is only a short story, but I wrote it for my wife Jill as a Christmas gift because she likes fantasy. You can download this as a PDF for free from my RC—Blyth site.

A new book, Failure is a Hard Act to Follow, is currently in its final stages, and there will be a newsletter about this and what the book covers.

The Writer’s Angle—posts from RCBlyth

Read the piece on Busypencilcase Communications published on 11/1/25. You will also find articles that feature writing and publishing for those interested in treading that author pathway.

Thanks for reading my introductory newsletter. Next up in Newsletter 2 is Learning from Mistakes, which is about my first entanglement with vanity publishing and children's books. Each newsletter will feature a book and the backstory.

I'm a great believer in regarding mistakes as a positive learning platform rather than allow a problem to get me down.
Learning from mistakes. Try not to take it to heart.
